About the Incubator

The Converge Incubator is a pilot program for upper division undergraduates seeking a dedicated focus on entrepreneurship. The 8-week experience includes up to 20 hours per week of programming and requires participation in designated core elements of the Summer Research Program, including orientation and a capstone presentation at the Summer Research Conference in August. All participants receive access to resources and multifaceted mentorship through The Basement. The curriculum is designed for early to mid-stage founders and/or members of a founding team looking to develop an idea from concept to execution. Applicants should propose a specific area of focus with an associated milestone and must be able to attend all required programming. Participants may seek 199 credit on a case-by-case basis.

The summer incubator is open to all UC San Diego undergraduates in good academic standing. You must be planning to enroll in credit-bearing coursework in fall 2019.

Applicants should have an idea for a startup business or product as a focus for research and testing over the course of the program. Please note that applicants are admitted individually. Multiple members of a team may apply.

Participants are required to attend orientation on June 24 and the Summer Research Conference on (TBA).

The incubator provides approximately 20 hours of required programming each week. Sessions take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The curriculum consists of a series of week-long design sprints. As part of the Summer Research Program, participants also have access to leadership seminars, professional skill-building, optional social outings, and other campus resources.

Sessions take place in The Basement. On acceptance into the program, teams are also granted access to Basement facilities and mentorship. Please note that this program serves as a dedicated bridge between spring and fall quarter opportunities. No projects funds are awarded.

Accepted participants are awarded $2,500 toward off-campus housing and living expenses for the 8-week program. Direct deposit is required and payments are coordinated through Financial Aid.
