UC San Diego Innovation Calendar
Quickly fading are the days of academic technology transfer offices focusing solely on patenting and licensing. Today, universities are moving beyond a transactional approach to technology transfer and integrating these efforts into broader engagement activities. To be a part of a university’s overall efforts at shaping regional and national innovation ecosystems, technology transfer must connect with the institution’s efforts to be engaged in economic, community and talent development. The session’s panel will examine how technology transfer is changing with regard to a broader mandate for the function, structure and placement within the larger organizations. It will also review expectations of university leaders and governing boards with regard to purpose and success indicators for university engagement in innovation and technology transfer.
